Hello SE-ers,

Most of you, if not all, have heard about the dedicated TeamSpeak server. It all started when we started out with the IRC channel Azaleaf created but unfortunately it died because no-one came on anymore. SE members still wanted to get in touch with each other and we wanted to play games such as Doom. So Jim started a TeamSpeak server to which we all could connect and we had way too much fun on it. However, Jim's parental units didn't like the fact that he had his PC on 24/7 so I took over that job with my PC since no PU's is gonna bitch about it being on all day. Eventually its little community grew as more members of SE joined. I became a full admin on it whereas Jim used to have that task on him because he was running the server at first. I made sure everyone could stay in touch on a higher level then just the SE forums by keeping my computer alive and managing the Hamachi groups.
Unfurtunately, Windows on my laptop flipped me the BSOD bird a few weeks back and corrupted itself and so I had to repair it causing me to re-install some programs. I also had to re-install Hamachi which had cost me my identity on Hamachi and thus my rights to edit the groups because they needed some rearrangements. I found out I could have salvaged my identity but now it's too late so I looked a bit further on the Hamachi website and found out that I could make groups through the internet and it would give me more administration oppertunities then I had before. Also, if my Windows decides to crash again I won't lose my rights because I manage the groups in another way now. I needed an account for this but I already had it because I used a remote desktop program by the Hamachi creators so now I use that.

So without further delay I like to address some changes on the whole TS matter. First of all, for you that are new to SE and/or TS, you will need to download the both TeamSpeak 3 client and Hamachi2. The links can be found in the instruction manual below. And for those who have been using Hamachi and TeamSpeak for a longer period there have been some new changes which are quite important, see the changes section below. Please follow the instructions because you won't be able to get on the SE TeamSpeak server anymore if you made an error or are too lazy to do it.
Also, I've added extra info how to save and recover your Hamachi ID and how to get Hamachi to connect when it fails to do so which can sometimes happen when Windows is being a rectum. Btw, the old topic has been locked and exiled to the SE Wasteland.

Never heard of Hamachi?
Hamachi is a program that allows you to simulate a Local Area Network (LAN), probably much like you have at home if you have multiple computers and/or newer game platforms which are all connected to the internet at a time. You can also play games which only supports LAN environments using Hamachi. Hamachi is fairly easy to set up and is completely free! Why use Hamachi? Well, for the LAN functions which are preferable for playing games together and because of the system "Dorian/Matrix" (computer running the TS server) is behind. Normal connections won't get through and I can't change this system.

  1. First, download the latest version here: https://secure.logmein.com/products/ham ... nsing.aspx
  2. If you have installed Hamachi, run it.
  3. Once Hamachi is up follow the wizard and its instructions first.
  4. The following steps are not mandatory but will help you get less frustrated when double clicking on a contact. Skip to step 5 if you want.
    • Go to: System -> Preferences
    • Here you can change your screen name at all times by the way. When done go to Settings where you can adjust stuff to your likings.
    • Click on: Advanced Settings. You can set a few settings here (gasp!).
    • Find "Double-click action of peer" and set it to "Send message". Now you won't have to right click on a contact and choose Chat manually. Unfortunately, you have to click on OK to set it and go all the way back to this screen every time. I hope they fix that in newer versions though.
  5. Then when ready go to: Network -> Connect to existing network
  6. Type in the following:
    • Networkd-ID: 040-899-600
    • Password: serocks
This will connect you to the Hamachi network "SilentEternity Group II". You will see other SE members here as well as "Dorian/Matrix" which is the computer that runs the TeamSpeak server. If you have more groups unrelated to SE and you still want to get on the SE TeamSpeak server make sure you are logged in to a group where "Dorian/Matrix" is in. It does not matter if anyone else from SE is missing since "Dorian/Matrix" connects everyone on TS.

Never heard of Teamspeak?
Teamspeak is a low cpu program which is used to speak with each other like Skype or MSN (Mic!). It also has a chat function so you won't necessarily need a mic but it is useful when playing games with other members.
Like Hamachi, TeamSpeak is fairly easy to set up and is also completely free! Also, TeamSpeak is also portable so you can copy the installation folder (or install it directly) on a flash drive. If you have other servers that are in your bookmarks then you can connect to them anywhere. However, you'll need a computer that has Hamachi on it and is connected to a SE group in order to talk to other SE members. The reason for this being the LAN functions of TS and the LAN system "Dorian/Matrix" (computer running the TS server) is behind. Normal connections won't get through and I can't change it.

  1. First, download the latest version of TeamSpeak: http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads (Make sure you pick a client version and that's compatible with your Windows bit version (either 32 or 64 bit. 32 bit is most common))
  2. Install it and when done, run it and follow the wizard (highly recommended).
  3. Now, before we connect to the TeamSpeak server we're gonna do a few settings.
    • Go to: Settings -> Options (or ALT+P)
    • Under "Application", set the options to your liking but I also recommend that you check "Subscribe to all channels". This makes it easier to see in what channel everyone is on the TeamSpeak server.
    • When done click on "Design" on the left side and check at least "Close to tray" under "Tray Icon". This will prevent shutting down TeamSpeak when clicking on the [X] on the top right of the screen. I have them all checked.
    • Under "Capture" you see something familiar if you have followed the wizard. You can adjust your mic settings here if you have one.
    • Under "Hotkeys" you can define global keyboard shortcuts, meaning they work whenever TS is running. It doesn't matter what program you are using at that time.
    • Under "Messages" you can define user status much like any other IM program. An alternative to this is clicking on the person icon under "Connections" in the main screen and set or choose a status there.
    • TeamSpeak has a nice dinging sound whenever you chat or someone chats. To turn this off go to "Notifications" and click on the minus in front of "Chat". Here you can check the boxes to enable or disable the dings.
    • If you're done, click on OK.
  4. If you are ready for it you can now connect to a server to speak or chat. In order to do this go to: Connections -> Connect.
  5. In here enter the following info:
    • Address: 5.4.162.96 (This is "Dorian/Matrix"' IP address on Hamachi so if it would ever change you can enter that IP address)
    • Port: 9987 (This is the default)
    • Nickname: (Use your SE nickname. If you are new, the TS admins might kick you because they don't know you)
    • Server Password: (Leave it blank, there is no password)
  6. When done click on OK or press the enter key. Welcome to the SilentEternity TeamSpeak Server =D
You will be able to ask questions to other online people if you have trouble figuring something out. Just make sure you read the rules and occasionally the news channels. Just a bit of info on the icons under the menubar:
  • The person icon, Status: You can alter your status here.
  • A V with a mic, Enable Mic In Channel: If you are on multiple servers only one server can use your mic input. Click on a different server tab and click on this icon to enable your mic on the current server. You won't be logged out from the other servers but they won't be able to hear you.
  • Crossed out mic, Mic Mute: Click this to mute your mic.
  • Crossed out speaker, Sound Mute: Click this to mute every sound that comes from other users as well as TeamSpeak itself.
  • Eye icon, Subcribe to all channels: This will subscribe you to all channels within a server so you can see everybody on the entire server, even when in other channels then you are. Handy if you're looking for someone.
  • Person with wrench, Contacts: You can manage your contacts with this.
Happy talking and chatting ^^

I've been revamping the Hamachi groups because I wanted to do so for a while now because they keep getting full because users are joining multiple channels while unnessecary. Now that my Windows kinda died on me a few weeks back I had no choice to do it now in order to keep the rights to the groups so I could manage them. Unfortunately, I had to create new groups but the new groups are not maintained by my Hamachi client but online using the Hamachi website I subscribed to.
There are 4 new groups for now. I've looked at the old ones and looked at the activity of people on TS and I've made a list so everyone gets in the right group. If you are active on TeamSpeak then you are in the first group and the others are in the second group. If you are in a different group then group 1 but you want to get more active on TS, don't worry. Just stay in your own group because group one already full anyway. Each group has me and "Dorian/Matrix" in it so you will be able to get on the TS server. I'm just in it for quick acces to me in case you need help with TeamSpeak or Hamachi (using Hamachi's own chat function).
I would like for everyone to go into the group they have been appointed to. Else I'm just gonna either kick you from the group or put you in the right group. Now let's say you want to use Hamachi to play a game online (LAN) and your adversary/partner is in a different group then you are, then you won't be able to play. I've got a work around for this because I've made a special game group to which you can connect ONLY if you want to play a game against or with another group's member(s). I want you to leave that network once you are done to preserve space in that room since the free version of Hamachi can only support the amount of 16 connections per network and since 2 are already taken by me and "Dorian/Matrix" it leaves only 14 spots to occupie. I'll create more rooms in the future when needed and arrange it so people who play the same games but different from other playes are in the right rooms so they can play with or against each other. The TeamSpeak server will always be available because of "Dorian/Matrix".
NOTE: "Dorian/Matrix" will be taken out of the old groups so you can't get on the SE TeamSpeak server anymore! Please follow the next instructions!

These are the new groups with their population and connection info. In Hamachi, go to Network -> Join existing network:
  • SilentEternity Group I:
    • Network-ID: 040-890-877
    • Password: serocks
    • People in it: Argo, QUINN-PC (=Damian), Rainor, JimBobJoe, John (=GolyBlood), Kalas, Shift, Shift's Brother, Shift Bros Comp, Shiftz (Moms Laptop), Vigilant, Vigi's new laptop, Naru, MAGGIE-PC (=Strike), Yurlyn, Dorian/Matrix.
This group will have another spot free because one of Shift's computers will not be in this group anymore.
  • SilentEternity Group II:
    • Network-ID: 040-899-600
    • Password: serocks
    • People in it: PatrickWilso-PC (= friend of Eternal), Starblaster1234, Lonesilverwolves, Scribbles, Azaleaf (=Azaleaf), I like Boom[er], I like Boom[er]'s Laptop, Kronosdragon-laptop, Evo/KillSwitch, SSK799, Yurlyn, Dorian/Matrix.
At this point it still has 5 spots open.
  • SilentEternity Group III:
    • Network-ID: 040-899-669
    • Password: serocks
    • People in it: Yurlyn, Dorian/Matrix.
At this point it still has 14 spots open but group II isn't full yet so join those first.
  • SilentEternity Game Group I:
    • Network-ID: 040-899-669
    • Password: serocks
    • People in it: Yurlyn, Dorian/Matrix.
At this point it still has 14 spots open and it will have these spots available at all times unless people are playing games with members from another main group and if it's a necessity. People playing games against each other using this group while all being in the same main group will be kicked because it's pointless to use the extra space. If you want to talk only to fellow players use the available channels on TeamSpeak.

How do I Backup and Restore my Hamachi2 Client configuration?
You may backup your configuration files in order to easily recover from a system crash, or to have the ability to move a client and all its configuration to a new computer.

To back up your Hamachi2 configuration
  1. Ensure you are running the latest version
  2. Launch Hamachi2, open System and go to Preferences
  3. Scroll to the bottom and highlight Service Configuration Click on Open...
  4. Copy all files and folders from the open window to some place safe
To restore you Hamachi2 Configuration
  1. When you install Hamachi2 on the new or reformatted computer, do NOT go Online.
  2. You will have to turn off the Hamachi 2.0 Tunneling Engine. This can be found by typing services.msc into the Run Box (in Windows: Start -> Run).
  3. Go to the Service Configuration folder you found in the above section.
  4. In here, you will paste the configuration files that you backed up in the above section.
  5. Go back into the services menu and turn the Hamachi 2.0 Tunneling Engine back on.
  6. When the computer is put online in Hamachi2, it will retain its old identity.
